Review: ReplayTV vs. Tivo vs. Cable DVR
The Sacramento Bee — www.sacbee.com — has an article on a review by the Good Housekeeping Institute comparing ReplayTV against Tivo and some of the DVR’s available from local cable companies.
While there aren’t too many specifics in the review and they don’t really pick a winner, they do say that both ReplayTV and Tivo are better than the competing units available from the cable companies.
As far as ReplayTV vs. Tivo, they seem to declare them about equal, giving the ReplayTV high marks for it’s networking capabilities.
They do have one gripe with ReplayTV — from the article:
There’s one big drawback: ReplayTV was so hard to set up that the institute’s engineers had to call the customer-service help line twice to iron out configuration problems. And the engineers make a living testing tech products.
I’m not sure why they had so much trouble setting up their ReplayTV unit — especially for people who “make a living testing tech products”. I may be a little more “techy” than the average person, but I had no trouble setting up my ReplayTV — I think it took me about 15 minutes in total (not including initial guide download time).
