Since American Idol is one of my favorite shows right now — I know, how can I even admit this in public — I have it recording on both my ReplayTV AND my Comcast / Scientific Atlanta DVR. After the last Idol debacle with the Comcast DVR, I’m not taking any chances.

So I get home last night and start watching my recording of American Idol on the Comcast DVR and realize that it recorded from 9PM – 10PM instead of only until 9:30 — the new half hour results show. Not a big deal I guess, since I didn’t miss any of the show. BUT, this meant that the most inane show on television — The Simple Life with Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie — was also recorded and, of course, I had to watch it. I could feel my brain turning to mush as I watched.

Also, I am still seeing posts on various websites and blogs about people being unable to fast forward during recordings of American Idol on the Scientific Atlanta DVR. These people seem to think that there is something that the cable company and the broadcaster are doing to disable fast forward during American Idol. So far, I have not found this to be the case. As of last nights episode, I am still able to fast forward through commercials on both the Scientific Atlanta DVR and the ReplayTV. I sure hope this doesn’t change anytime soon…
