DVR Takes a Summer Vacation

Apparently even my ReplayTV needs a vacation.

According to this article from The Washington Times, an analysis of Tivo viewing data for the past two weeks shows that the majority of the top 25 broadcast network shows were watched live instead of being recorded and watched at a later time.

It seems that DVR usage is seasonal along with the broadcast TV schedule. When we are in the middle of a new TV season and most shows are first run, most people with DVRs are recording the shows and watching them later. But in the summer when mainly repeats are shown, viewers are just “tuning in” to see what they can find on TV that they haven’t already seen.

One promising side note: both Family Guy and American Dad were among the few shows that were primarily recorded and watched later — hopefully, this is a sign that people don’t want to miss either of these great shows!

If you liked this article, buy me a coffee! :)
