Do I Need A Popup Killer For My Tivo?
Tivo has a new software update that includes, among other things, Popup Ads.
Popup Ads? Yeah, this sounds a little weird, but basically this update includes a feature that will popup icons on the screen when you fast forward through commercials. These icons are supposed to alert the viewer to the commercial they are skipping and if they pause while the icon is on the screen, they can view the entire commercial. Initially these icons will popup during General Motors and WB TV Network commercials.
While at first glance these “popup ads” seem harmless, I’m just not sure about them. As pointed out in this article on PVRblog, Tivo is “spinning” these popup ads as a small side feature of the larger major feature of the update – the ability to send your contact information directly to advertisers to get more information.
I wonder if popup killers on the Tivo will make a shotgun sound when they kill these ads…
