ReplayTV Goes to China
D&M Holdings, Inc. has announced that they have teamed up with PRCDirect Ltd. to deliver DVR services to China. As part of the partnership, D&M Holdings will license the ReplayTV Software and provide DVR design services to PRCDirect Ltd.
Basically, D&M will work with PRCDirect to create a DVR for the Chinese market based on the ReplayTV software. They will also provide “interactive TV data” (whatever that is) that will come through an IP based delivery system that will be developed by the two companies.
This is very good news for ReplayTV — finally, there is some activity and excitement surrounding the ReplayTV. It seems like all the new stuff coming up in the DVR industry has been about either Tivo or Cable DVR units with the ReplayTV left out in the cold.
Also in this press release is what sounds like a new direction that D&M may be heading with the ReplayTV — as a platform that can be licensed by companies for its electronic program guide and content delivery services. From the article:
ReplayTV continues to offer DVRs and provide program guide services to users in the U.S. ReplayTV can also support other companies needing device management and delivery services for EPG, User data or content.
Maybe this is the beginning of more good news from ReplayTV — could a new model be coming soon? We can only hope…
