Yahoo Launches Tivo Scheduling Over The Web
Another day, another Tivo deal. This time it’s with Yahoo. For all the TiVo Series 2 DVR owners, you can now schedule your recordings over the web at Yahoo! TV. On all Yahoo TV Episode pages, there will now be a Record to my TiVo box link that, when clicked, will queue this show to be recorded on your TiVo DVR.
I don’t have a TiVo and a TiVo service account, so I can’t try this out and see what features have been implemented. But from the Yahoo help page on this new service, it appears that all it will do is allow you to schedule this one show to record on your TiVo. You will also need a Series 2 Tivo to use this service.
While this appears similar to the My ReplayTV website and service available to ReplayTV owners, it definitely does not appear that it will be as comprehensive — at least in the beginning. Where the My ReplayTV service allows you to actually see what recordings are currently on your ReplayTV and even delete them if you need more space, there is nothing like this with the Yahoo – TiVo connection. Of course, there is one advantage with the Yahoo TV and TiVo setup — if your TiVo is connected via broadband, it only takes about an hour for shows scheduled on Yahoo TV to show up on your TiVo. With My ReplayTV, it takes 24 hours for changes to show up on your ReplayTV.
