Don’t Forget To Add Time For The Oscars

Long winded, overblown, and unnecessarily drawn out scheduling alert: The Academy Awards (Oscars), as usual, will hold true to form Sunday night and run way beyond it’s scheduled ending time. With all of the actors who seem to get diarrhea of the mouth after winning an Oscar and have to thank every person that they have ever met, it’s a sure bet that the running time will go over by at least 30 - 60 minutes.

So, for everyone who is recording the Oscars on their DVR (ReplayTV, TiVo, etc.), make sure to manually add at least one hour to your scheduled recording of the Academy Awards. And don’t forget that there is an added benefit to not watching the Oscars live — you can fast forward through the acceptance speeches!

Commander in Chief Name Change May Cause Problems for Theme Recordings

If you have a ReplayTV Theme Recording setup for the ABC show Commander in Chief, you may have a problem. ABC has changed the name of the show from “Commander in Chief” to “Commander In Chief”. The only difference is the “I” in “In” is now capitalized, where before it was lower case.

It seems that if you have a Replay Channel setup for Commander In Chief everything will record as normal and you shouldn’t have any problems. However, if you have a ReplayTV Theme Recording setup for the show, the change it capitalization may cause a problem and the show may not get recorded. Theme based recordings seem to use the same text matching on the show name as the Find All Shows search, which does not find upcoming episodes of Commander In Chief if you don’t capitalize the i.

So if you have a theme based channel setup for Commander In Chief, you should probably either change it to a Replay Channel or make sure the the i in “In” is capitalized so the show gets recorded.

NBC Puts An End to Scheduling Conflicts

NBC has announced that they will no longer be supersizing shows. In other words, no more 8:01 start times and 9:59 end times. Hopefully, this also means no more scheduling conflicts.

With their ratings in the tank, NBC has decided to make some changes. NBC Entertainment President Kevin Reilly has compared these changes to a calonic (there’s an image I didn’t need):

“It’s like a colonic,” he said of the changes going on at NBC. “It’s not nice going in, but it’s healthy in the long run.”

I’m not sure what NBC’s reasoning was behind these wacky schedules in the first place but it definitely created problems for DVR owners.

Hopefully, this will be a permanent change and other networks will follow — manually adjusting for these 1 minute conflicts on my ReplayTV has been driving me crazy!

Battlestar Galactica Marathon

SciFi will be showing the entire season one of their original series, Battlestar Galactica, starting at 8:00 AM on the East Coast.

If you are recording all episodes of Battlestar Galactica, check to make sure you have enough room on your ReplayTV so you don’t lose other shows!

Las Vegas and Crossing Jordan Meet

For those of you who watch either Crossing Jordan or Las Vegas, the two shows will have a single storyline for their November 7th and 8th episodes.

On the November 7th episode of Crossing Jordan, Jordan and Woody will travel to Las Vegas to work with Montecito Hotel Security (Danny) to track the killer of a man who turned up dead on a plane with 3 million dollars handcuffed to his wrist.

Then, on the November 8th episode of Las Vegas, the story continues with Ed, Danny, and Mike helping Jordan and Woody to solve the murder.

So, if you record either one of these shows, you probably want to setup a manual record for the other so you get both episodes and don’t miss the ending.

This also will force me to try watching Crossing Jordan, a show that I have been interested in for a while now but for some reason I just never seem to be able to bring myself to watch — even when I have it on my ReplayTV!

NBC moves LAX to Wednesday Nights

Check your recording schedules for Wednesday Nights. NBC has moved LAX from Monday to Wednesday Nights at 8:00PM - 9:00PM.

This conflicts with some of the new Fox shows when they return on November 3rd, along with any other existing shows on Wednesday Nights from 8:00PM - 9:00PM.

Another ABC Series changes to 61 minutes — Desperate Housewives

Another potential scheduling conflict courtesy of ABC — Desperate Housewives is now also being scheduled for 61 minutes — from 9:00PM to 10:01PM.

Apparently, ABC is trying to really screw up all the PVR’s in the world with these schedules — can there really be any other reason for an additional 1 minute?

Again, check your recording schedule for Sunday nights and setup manual records if needed — what a pain this is becoming!
