[...] As I wrote last week, VeohTV is being called a possible DVR for Internet Video. Currently in beta testing and available by invitation only, I applied for the beta and received my invitation about a week later. While I haven’t spent much time with VeohTV (yet), here are some of my first impressions of the current beta version. [...]

Hello, just so you know. The new Sci-Atl HD DVR's do not have this bug anymore. My standard def DVR did exactly what you describe. Pissed me off, too. But fortunately, they have fixed it with their latest batch of HD DVRs. Just a FYI. Cheers!

I also have photos and a report from CES: http://www.tivolovers.com/Photos/CES2007/

It hasn't been 'over two years' - they announced the partnership on March 15, 2005. So it has been nearly two years. Back when it was announced the plan was to have initial deployment in late 2006. That did slip to field trials in late 2006 (which have been underway) and initial deployment in early 2007. Not bad for such a big effort. It isn't a port of their existing software, it is a ground-up re-implementation of the TiVo feature set to run in an OCAP environment. A lot more work than was initially believed.

[...] Last year at this time, the Internet was filled with rumors that Google was going to buy TiVo. They has a boatload of extra cash lying around (and apparently they still do) and all the big technology websites were speculating on how Google might spend their hard earned cash. Cnet even reported that they had multiple sources that confirmed that Google was in negotiations to buy TiVo. [...]

[...] Last week I posted about the end of TiVo Lifetime Subscriptions and that March 16th would be the last day to get your TiVo lifetime subscription. Well, TiVo had made a last minute reprieve on the death sentence for lifetime subscriptions sign ups, albeit temporary. For an unknown reason, TiVo has decided to extend the date to get a lifetime subscription until April 15th. This means that you can get a lifetime subscription on any TiVo purchased between now and April 15th. You do have to call to activate your TiVo and get your lifetime subscription (it can’t be done on the unit itself), and you have to do this by April 15th. [...]

[...] As I wrote about earlier in the month, TiVo is in the process of changing their pricing model and with this change comes the end of the lifetime subscription. Well, the time has come. Today, March 16 2006, is the last day the the TiVo Lifetime Subscription will be available. After today, there will be no more lifetime subscriptions — it’s monthly fees forever! [...]

I said the same thing as soon as the RTV announcement was made. WindowsXP MCE is becoming a de facto standard on new machines, and *all* Windows Vista versions will inherently be media center capable. Media center is pretty good, to be honest, and what can the third party vendors offer over and above the 'free' capabilities users will already have? TiVo differentiates themselves by having a slew of features the other DVRs lack.

[...] As reported last month, TiVo has announced a new pricing plan for their DVR units. Under the new plan, there will no longer be a lifetime subscription fee available. But, buyers will not have to buy a TiVo anymore - they only have to sign up for an annual contract and pay a monthly fee. TiVo contracts will be available in lengths of one, two, or three years with the monthly fee being $19.95 a month for a one year contract, $18.95 a month for a two year contract, and $16.95 a month for a three year contract. Initially, the new pricing plans will be available only to customers who sign up on TiVo.com with retail store customers still getting the old pricing. Eventually, TiVo plans to also change retail stores over to the new plans. [...]
