Completely Refresh The Channel Guide

With the ReplayTV, there are situations when you may have to update or even completely refresh your TV Listings — or in ReplayTV terminology, your Channel Guide. Changing your input settings, switching your listings provider and working with other ReplayTV configuration settings can cause your Channel Guide to get a little “wacky”, and sometimes the only way to fix this is to either update the Channel Guide or completely clear the guide and redownload all the information.

Normally, the ReplayTV connects to the ReplayTV servers every day at a predetermined time (usually in the middle of the night) and downloads new Channel Guide information in addition to checking for phone number updates and any ReplayTV Software updates. This is called and Net Connect and normally only happens once a day. Instead of waiting for a scheduled net connect to update your Channel Guide, you can force a manual net connect. This is done by entering 243 on the remote (as if you were changing to channel number 243) and then immediately pressing the Zones button. A menu will be displayed on the screen and one of the choices will be marked “7 - Net Connect”. By pressing the number 7 on the remote, you will force the ReplayTV to immediately perform a Net Connect and update your Channel Guide with the latest listings.

Sometimes, forcing a Net Connect will not be enough. When the Channel Guide is really screwed up, you may have to delete all the listings in the guide and completely clear the Channel Guide. To do this, you bring up the same menu as before by entering 243 on the remote and then pressing the Zones button. On the menu there is a choice marked “2 - Clear Channel Guide”. When you press the number 2 on the remote, the Channel Guide will be completely cleared and the ReplayTV will then reboot. When the ReplayTV has finished rebooting, force a manual net connect by entering 243 on the remote, pressing the zones button, and then pressing the number 7 for a Net Connect. Since the Channel Guide is currently empty, this Net Connect will download all the Channel Guide information and completely refresh it, fixing any problems that may have been there before it was cleared.

Clearing the Channel Guide is also useful when there is a schedule change in the TV Listings that you want to have reflected in your ReplayTV guide but the schedule date is more than one day in the future. When the nightly Net Connect is performed, the Channel Guide is updated with new information and only the next 1-2 days of current guide information are updated if there are any changes in the schedule. So, if a TV Show has a schedule change that is more than a couple of days out, you won’t see this change in the guide until the day before it is supposed to be on. By clearing the channel guide, you will see this change in your ReplayTV Channel Guide immediately.
